Steps for speeding up your computer (not speeding up boot times)
All Desktop PC Units. Cause Programs running in the background Virus/Spyware etc. Not Enough Ram Not enough Hard Drive Space Outdated hardware In order to fix the issue you can do the following: STARTUP Go to Start > Run and then type msconfig. Take a look at what programs start up when Windows starts and how many programs there are in total.!!WARNING!!Some of the processes that are listed may be required to run Windows properly. Deactivating them could cause Windows to run strangely. SCANDISK The best way to start Scandisk is to double click on "My Computer", then right click on the "C:" drive and select properties from the list that appears... From the next menu select "Tools" and then "Check Now" The scandisk screen will now appear, select all the boxes and click on "Start". Scandisk will begin. Be warned this may take several hours, so don’t run it, if you are going to need the computer in a rush. Some people tend to run it over night or before they go to work. DEFRAGMENTATION Run Defrag (almost the same process as above) Defrag will organize data on the computer into the most efficient manner VIRUS SCAN Use the nominated Virus scanner to scan the whole computer for viruses. Not an automatic scan, force the virus scanner to scan If Customer has no virus scanner they can purchase eTrust from http://store.faredge.com.au SPYWARE Make an anti-spyware program has been installed such as Ad-aware or Spybot. Then update and finally scan with them REGISTRY CLEANER Backup registry then run a program like CCleaner to clean the registry. Clean up the hard drive... Free up some hard drive space, Usually leave a minimum of 15% free. If the computer is still running slow. There is no more software things that can be causing this. The next step is to try new Hardware. PURCHASE/INSTALL MORE RAM Check which RAM and how much your computer supports, then find a cheap price, then buy and install it UPGRADE CPU Find out what your motherboard supports find a good price and buy one.
