How to get IP address and MAC address and Ping Test

Problem

For various networking problems you may need to obtain your IP address an do a Ping test.

Ping is a command used to check ones connection speed. It stands for ' Packet Internet Groper '. Normally one pings ones own IP address to check the quality and speed of the network.

Solution

To do this, you have to go to ' Start ' then from the Window that comes up, select ' Run' or search box in VISTA . In the box that pops up type ' cmd '. This command will take you to the Command Prompt.

Now you will need to type ' ipconfig /all '. Yes, there is a space after ipconfig. This will bring up your IP address and other such details. You should simply note down your IP address somewhere. Then you type the word ' ping ' followed by your IP address and hit 'enter ' once again. This will show you the speed at which internet protocol packets are sent back and forth from your computer.
