How to test to eliminate your hard drive as the source of unusual noise from your computer

Hard Drive Acoustics Test
How to perform a simple hard drive diagnostics.
Using the Acoustics test, shuts down the Hard drive like making it go idle and spin down.
If your hard drive is defective it will emit unusual noises. The CPU fan or Power Suppy Unit(PSU) can sometimes be mistake for Hard drive noises

Seagate Technology - SeaTools for DOS
CD/DVD Burning software
CD Burner + Blank CD


Solution


Download the: SeaTools for DOS
Burn the CD ISO using your Burning software (Refer to your own software's instructions)
Leave the CD in the drive
Restart your computer
Accept the License Agreement: Click [I Accept]
Click [Basic Test]
Click [Acoustics Test]
After the message onscreen says that the Hard drive is turned down, listen to the computer.
Click [Close]
Click [Exit]
Upon prompt, remove SeaTools CD
Press [Ctrl] + [Alt] + [Del] to restart your computer

While the test is being performed you can listen to the computer, if you can still hear noises then the issue is either the CPU fan or PSU.
Other wise it could your Hard drivem, if so then you should contact your Hard drive vendor if it's still in warranty.
